88.3 Southern FM is a Community radio station, located in Mentone. A number of our regular presenters take a break over the Christmas-New Year period and we would like to offer your students the opportunity to get a little bit of experience during this time.
We propose offering placements of 4 or 6 weeks (depending on how long the regular presenters are away). In order to meet the requirements of our insurance, all presenters need to be members of the station. Rather than paying the full membership we would offer successful students a short term membership costing $10.
Students who are interested in a short term program can email me their contact details, a brief outline of the type of program they would like to present and the times during the week when they would be available. We will then match gaps on the program grid with the student applications.
I would encourage the students to look at the current program guide which is available on the website (www.southernfm.com.au) so they can see the broad range of programs that are presented each week.

Today, Monday October 29, I want to see your final plan and your draft script.
If you do not have this work finished today I expect to see you tomorrow at the replacement class for Video and you will be able top use the class time to finish then. Class will be from 10.00am until 1.00pm.
On Wednesday October 31 you will be required to attend class for at least two hours so that you can complete an exercise in reading radio ads.
You will record two ads – or community service announcements. One will be upbeat and excited, the other will be more serious. I will give you the scripts.

It is really difficult to read out a one or two minute editorial but I am pleased to say that the results were terrific. Everyone has made a vast improvement this year, even those who do not think they have!
It is really pleasing to hear you putting some life into your voices and understanding what was required of the task.
You can hear my editorial on Bob Dylan at the ABC Dig! website complete with music here:
http://www.abc.net.au/dig/stories/audio/dylanreview_med.mp3
I must admit that it took me a full day to complete this. Half a day to do at least three rewrites of a review I had already done so it would be suitable for radio and then half a day to record it. So I reckon that’s about 8 hours work – and I have been doing this for years! And when I listen back I reckon I could have sounded a bit more relaxed if I had the chance to do it again.

Today we will read through the assessment and discuss what is needed. Please read this on the next post.
You are required to interview an ‘informed’ person or someone who has an interest in the issue you wish to explore. You cannot just interview anyone!
I reckon we need to have this done no later than next Tuesday which is when I will listen to the results. So you need to get your interviews done by Monday. You can tidy it up but you will not have time to edit the interview.
After dicussion today and listening to some interviews you will be given time to do your work.
